New quail run.

Postby louise » Fri Jun 12, 2009 2:53 pm

Our new quail run has arrived, it is massive.:)
We ordered it from a local 'company' who employ people with learning disabilities and they use recycled wood to build things. It is actually sold as a chicken run, and has chicken wire, so we asked if they could do it with 1/2 " weldmesh, it would have cost £110, but with the weldmesh it was £130 plus £10 delivery, it is thick mesh, really solid and big- 3 foot by 6 foot run and a 3 foot by 4 foot house, and 4 foot high at the tallest point.
I'm really pleased with it and will be ordering some for the guinea pigs, althought they will be a bit heavy to move they will be safe and solid.
I have tried to post some photos but they won't load, need Mike to sort that out.

All we need now are some girls to keep Charlie company, how are things going Suz. :o)

Do you think it looks ok.

I would like to get 5-6 females for Charlie to go in with. With a lot of space I hope to remove any chance of bickering.

That looks brilliant.

What dimensions is it, you might get more birds than you imagine in it.
Which is better? Quail keeping or fishing? There's only one way to find out...........

The house is 3 foot X 4 foot, and the run is 6 foot X 3 foot, both are 4 foot high at the tallest point. I could probably fit more in but at the moment I'm struggling to find any japs near by. I only want females, so I don't want to try hatching them.

Do the Quail need separate house and run or can they have an ark partially covered.

They'll be OK with partially covered, but if there's a really grotty damp winter then having some sort of nest box they can really keep away from the elements in and snuggle up is a good idea.
